E-VISA USA: TRAVEL TO THE USA WITH ESTA

What is an E-Visa for USA?

An E-Visa USA application must be submitted online before your departure to the USA. The USA government’s official name for their E-Visa portal is: Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). Visitors entering via air or sea must apply in advance and obtain an approval before visiting the United States. It is an online application system developed by the United States Government in order to strengthen border security for visitors arriving in the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). An “ESTA” is not the same as a travel visa, as it can be completed entirely online and has fewer requirements than a regular travel visa. All you have to do is enter your personal information online and make a payment via credit or debit card. If your application is approved, your E-Visa USA will be delivered to you via email. Obtaining an E-Visa for USA is essential to enter the United States under the VWP.

About the ESTA system

The “ESTA” system was introduced in 2008 and became mandatory in 2009. It allows citizens of certain countries to enter the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). All travelers entering the USA by air or sea using the VWP must have an approved travel authorization before travelling to the USA. Travelers without a travel authorization may be denied boarding a flight or commercial vessel to the USA. All applicants are advised to apply at least 72 hours before their planned trip to the United States. Once you have completed the steps in the application, your application has been successfully submitted for processing. It usually takes applicants 5-10 minutes to finish the E-Visa USA application. An approval or denial of your application is normally sent to you by email within 72 hours, or less. You may apply for a B-1 business visa or a B-2 tourist visa at the US Embassy if your application is not approved.

Who needs to apply for ESTA?

You are eligible for an E-Visa to USA if you hold a passport from any of the countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program. You are required to hold an approved travel authorization if you are entering the United States by air or sea using the VWP. Each person traveling must hold an approved travel authorization, which includes minors and babies. Also, all applicants need to hold a machine-readable passport (e-passport) to apply.

What is the Visa Waiver Program?

The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) allows citizens of certain countries to enter the United States for business, tourism or medical purposes for up to 90 days. It is a US government program that has made it easier to visit the USA by not having to apply for a visa at the US Embassy. Instead, travelers can now apply for “ESTA”, which is a faster process than a standard visa application that could take several months to finalise. The online application normally takes less than 10 minutes to complete.
